Hi Sungyoung, the music for the Jeep Compass ad should be made into a hit single. It’s that good. The video is exceptional too. Thanx for posting.
Exuma – Bill (Chris Schwarzwalder Edit)
I believe the artist performing in this ad is kevin davey white who came third in bgt18. Engaged to our neice.
Definitely! Jeep should take a hint and release this as a hit single! It really is that good!
Great tune, should be a full song and be released
I totally agree! The first time I heard the commercial I instantly searched to find out who it was ….for 2 days!!! to no avail until I read this post.
Exuma – Bill (Chris Schwarzwalder Edit)
another good one i found from car commercial
SPOT FIAT SPIDER-FREE LIKE A BIRD RMX wyclef jean(Larry Lynch autor)
as well as marium hill down
It sounds like Vertical Horizon’s lead singer Matt Scannell
Great tune, should be a full song and be released
The ad is good, best Jeep ad I have seen in awhile. I hope jeep continues this, and creates a story line along the concept of this ad. It has a lot to say. The music though is the most memorable part. If they allowed and encouraged the studio and artists involved to release a full version of the music, it would always be associated with a Jeep Compass.
Why is this not a song…so sad I can’t download it
From reading the YouTube video comments on the commercial, the song that has the same lyrics but different slower tone is “Exhuma – by artist Bill (Chris Schwarzwalder edit)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN6Dg7hYCAo
actually it is the EXACT song called BAAL off Exumas 1st album.. I have it and immediately recognized it !!! I am contacting Exuma to report it and JEEP NEEDS to PAY the Artists and their families…
JEEP had to have gotten permission to use that song. The company would not have been foolish enough to do it any other way. It’s a great song.
You are correct. It is “Ba’al” not “Bill” as is erroneously listed on YouTube, which is a reference to the false gods discussed in the Bible. Unfortunately Exuma has been dead for 20 years. Ironically the Jeep ad is about life choices and freedom; the Exuma song is about sorcery and slavery of the soul– very opposite meanings.
The song/video was taken down.
Your song is a DIRECT RIPPOFF of the band EXUMAS 1st album in the early 60s . The music, beat note for note is a copyright infringement off their amazing album.. I heard it and immediately recorded it and knew EXACTLY what it was.
The artist who wrote the song is named “Macfarlane Gregory Anthony Mackey”. His song is BAAL on his 1st cd as EXUMA. I have had the album since 1970 !!! PAY HIM ROYALTIES JEEP !!!!!
You are correct about about the composer, however it was on the 2nd album called Exuma II.
Here is the original cut on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-diPiztDtxQ
The voice on the commercial does not sound like the original cut. Sounds a bit like Jai Uttal.
xcuz me it was ACTUALLY his second album —– But the song IS BAAL ripped off !!!1
I think its the musician The White Buffalo (aka Jake Smith)
The music definitely sounds like the Exuma song but the lyrics are different for sure.
It sounds like Peter Gabriel to me…
Sounds like Joe Brucato
The commercial is brilliant, but looked it up for the song. I agree with the others that it could be a hit. I’m unfamiliar with EXUMA but intend to check it out. And, yes, Jeep should make every effort to support the artist.
Geez, I am sure they did it right and paid certain royalties to the right people for the song. I Love the song and wish a full edit song would come out but that is up to the people who have the rights to the music if they let them use it for the right money and then even if the people who produced and sang in the song are even willing to make it. So, just wait and see if they do that. And don’t be trolling on Jeep about this song.
I WANT TO PURCHASE THIS SONG AND PLAY IT CRUISING IN MY JEEP!!!!
AMEN
WHY ISN’T THIS A REAL SONG
Well to be Complete is s remake of the Remake https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN6Dg7hYCAo this is the song that Chris Schwarzwalder worked with the daughter of the original artist to do then jeep redid this one but yes INSTANTLY Knew it and I hope to gawd they are paying royalties. If not bad move and another reason for me to stay far away from this company.
It is a real song well sort of Its new lyrics and faster tempo of the remake Chris Schwarzwalder Edit did found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qN6Dg7hYCAo the title says bill not baal which is the uploaders fault
did with Exuma II Albums Baal song found here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y94GLSGVRWg
but he did it with permission from the daughter
I hope Jeep did the same and got permission cause that was an INSTANT “I know that song”
Sorry for the double post —- But great news I have RMIXED Chris’s song from youtube for you all…… That version was no as fast as the jeep song so I made is close a version to the Jeep Ad tempo. Made sure to keep the pitch of the singer as close to original and echo and reverb to a minimum to cover the cheap MP3 sound quality so you can play it loud. And you can D/L through the Download Audio Button in lower right of the page *FREE*—— ENJOY EVERYONE https://audioboom.com/posts/5982185-exuma-s-baal-chris-schwarzwalder-version-by-sharariebrum?t=0
***UPDATE*** The filters and timing are bad on my first attempt at this— Had to make it PERFECT as I Really love the original Baal. I had to make sure this was perfect. The overkick reverb bass line was just uhh not the best. This is the retimed resampled BETTER version
https://audioboom.com/posts/5983481-exuma-ii-baal-final-mix-by-sharariebrum
I am leaving the other up just incase anyone actually likes it better….but for me this is way better. don’t get me wrong its decent but for me I had to make it perfect ENJOY
Very cool remix. Thanks for doing that. And interesting to read the history of Exuma and the various versions of the song previously.
Man o Man how disappointing that this isn’t a song (the way it is in the commercial) that we can buy…I want, I want, I want!!!!!
Sharariebrum, thanks for editing the track. But, I don’t see a download button in lower right. Do you mean the “Report this episode” button?
You have to sign up for free account to see that button
Also here just to be a great person I uploaded it here just Download and enjoy Hope this helps

I believe the song is Set Me Free by The Heavy
https://youtu.be/qN6Dg7hYCAo
I have been an Exuma fan since the 60’s. I immediately recognized it as Baal. I told my best friend what I just heard and he couldn’t believe it. Exuma was from the island of Exuma and much of his music was tinged in voodoo called Obeah. He was called the Obeah man. I have all of his album. Check out Doo-Wah-Nanny and Exuma’s Reincarnation. Baal is a great song too. Exuma died a long time ago.
Actually he was from Cat Island in the southern Bahamas.
🙂 Cat Island, the Hermitage. What a beautiful island between Eluthera and the Exumas. I hope McCay’s family was paid for this edit.
Thank you for posting all the info on the song. I love the remix Sharariebrum, but after listening to the original, there is no comparison. The original is simply brilliant.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y94GLSGVRWg
He was a soulful original!
The original. A great and amazing Bahamian artist.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y94GLSGVRWg
Happy to know I am not the only one who looked for this song. Yes I really like it
The title is Baäl by Exuma on the album Exuma II https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y94GLSGVRWg
I would buy if it was a song!!to bad
Go on youtube and search Klangnomad-I am what I am and you will get a mix with Baal by Exuma being the first song.
Sorry to inform you all. I have tried but failed to reach the conglomerate of Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge. I have attempted to tell these people to stop using my word from my song titled Set Me Free.
This Song is protected by U. S. copyright acts and has been so since 2010. I copy right protected it in an inclusive package of 28 songs at that time. How Jeep is portraying this song would require my permission and this has not been given. Set Me Free is way more than selling a vehicle. It is about human life and I wrote it many years ago. About human life. Selling it the way Jeep is, is degrading to who I am and what I mean. Jeep, dodge, the conglomerate of the ownership, must stop using my song, Set Me Free, or pay me accordingly for now, to continue using such voice.
There is a lot to say about this song and this artist. It is not BILL it is Baal as in the devil. This is from Exuma’s second album. I grew up on this music as we had a home in the Bahamas in particular the out islands. The Exumas was a favorite place and remains so in my heart. Their music marks some of the most sacred moments in my childhood. What an amazing collection of musicians and artists. I hope they were paid well for this edit.
It’s very good but honestly I thought it was REM!
You can find the song for free download on MP3Skull.com
It sounded like Josh Groban. I even searched his songs because I thought it was his cover
If Jeep did not pay royalties then I hope they fall down Baal’s hole as per original lyrics. Wonder who sang the ‘set me free’ ad. He really should remake the original & share royalties with the original artist’s (Macfarlane Gregory Anthony Mackey) descendants or some charity in the place that nurtured his musical talent. Love this ad – thanks SungyoungLee
It really sounds Like David Essex
Hi,
Actually, the correct title of the song by Exuma is Ba’al.
It’s from his Exuma II album.
Glad you enjoyed the commercial 💖 Does anyone know the name of the vocalist singing the hook “Set me free” on the commercial?
